PSIS Semarang has undergone significant changes ahead of the BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 season, with many key players moving on. Two crucial local defenders, Fredyan Wahyu and Wahyu Prasetyo, have transferred to Malut United. They follow in the footsteps of Hari Nur Yulianto, who made the same move last season. PSIS Semarang also lost a vital foreign player, Taisei Marukawa, who transferred to Dewa United. PSIS cited foreign player regulations as a reason for Marukawa’s departure. However, PSIS has made new signings to strengthen the squad, including Zalnando, who was loaned from Persib Bandung. Changes to foreign player regulations are also notable. For the 2024/2025 season, each club is allowed to contract up to eight foreign players. There is no restriction on the countries of origin for these players. However, there are regulations regarding the competitive tier of the clubs where the players are from. From the eight foreign players, only six can be on the field at the same time. This is a change from the 2023/2024 season, where clubs could contract six foreign players with five being unrestricted and one from ASEAN.

Bhayangkara FC is regretting their 2023/2024 season, which ended with relegation from BRI Liga 1. Consequently, The Guardians will play in Liga 2 next season. However, Bhayangkara FC is eager to return to the top flight as soon as possible. The team has been preparing rigorously since early June 2024 and has strengthened their roster for Liga 2. They have signed notable players like Ilija Spasojevic from Bali United and Andy Setyo from Persikabo 1973, both of whom have international experience with the Indonesian national team.

In terms of regulations for youth players, BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 will implement new rules. Each club is required to field at least one player under 22 years old (U-22) for a minimum of 45 minutes per game. Clubs are exempt from this requirement if two or more of their players are called up to the Indonesian National Team. In contrast, the 2023/2024 season had a requirement to play U-23 players, but this regulation was abolished towards the end of the season.

The use of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) is not new to BRI Liga 1 or Indonesian football in general. VAR was introduced during the Championship Series of the 2023/2024 season. However, for the 2024/2025 season, VAR will be used in all BRI Liga 1 matches. To maintain the VAR equipment at stadiums, there is a regulation imposing a fine of IDR 100 million for any damage caused by players or officials. Additionally, the home club is responsible for the security of the VAR equipment, with a penalty of IDR 500 million for any violations.

Persib will begin their campaign in BRI Liga 1 by facing Persib Bandung. Persib Bandung carry the title of defending champions in BRI Liga 1 2024/2025. Maung Bandung will attempt to defend their title, which is evident from their activity in the transfer market. The team has signed two local players with Indonesian national team labels, Dimas Drajad and Adam Alis. Both are expected to have a significant impact on the depth of Persib’s squad. Not only local players, but Persib has also made changes to their foreign player lineup. Stefano Beltrame and Alberto Rodriguez have transferred, and in their place, Persib has recruited Gustavo Franca, Mailson Lima, and Mateo Kocijan. Check out the full fixtures of Persib Bandung in BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 below.
